Landed Internship at Meta @ 17

Built scalable artist discovery system during MetaU internship - my entry into FAANG

Know More

At 18, I joined Meta through the MetaU program, my first exposure to shipping backend systems at real production scale. It was fast, intense, and shaped the way I think about infrastructure today.

Context

Into The Deep End

The MetaU program gave me barely a week to onboard before jumping into a project. The task was, as part of the codepath partnership, to design a capstone project and I chose to improve how artists were discovered and recommended across Spotify and Apple Music. For me, it was a chance to prove I could hold my own inside one of the biggest distributed systems in the world

Build

Optimized Recommendation Algorithm

I delivered a full-stack artist discovery pipeline with Node.js, Redis, and Postgres, combining backend services with a React front-end wrapper. To make it efficient, I built scheduled jobs to surface trending artists and tuned Postgres joins + indexes, cutting latency by 1.5× and reducing backend compute load by 40%.

Takeaway

Foundations of Infra

Used Hack language for the first time. Meta taught me that speed and scale aren’t the same thing—you need both. Contributing to something that worked and ran lean at scale gave me my first real taste of distributed systems engineering, and it became the foundation for the kind of infrastructure work I’m most passionate about now. Also, met Zuck :)
