2025
1 of 47 D.E. Shaw Fellows
Selected as 1 of 47 students worldwide for a deep-dive into quant research and engineering

Know More
At 19, I became one of only 47 fellows out of over 1500+ chosen globally for the D. E. Shaw Fellowships: an intensive program exposing undergrads to the firm’s approach to quantitative research, distributed systems, and financial engineering.
2025 D.E. Shaw Fellow
This was more than prestige, I earned myself a front-row seat into the intersection of finance and systems and engineering at one of the most selective programs in the country.

Context
Breaking In
Coming from Howard, where few students land in quant pipelines, this was uncharted territory. The fellowship wasn’t just an accolade but more a shot at showing I could thrive in a space usually dominated by target schools and competition veterans.

Build
Sharpening the Edge
The program drilled into algorithmic problem-solving, probability, and systems design under real-world constraints. I worked on exercises modeling stochastic processes, building resilient systems, and dissecting how infra at scale is optimized for milliseconds. It was like stepping into a different operating system of thinking, one where rigor and creativity had to coexist.

Takeaway
The Quant Mindset
What I carried away was confidence: that I could operate in high-pressure spaces outside my “lane” and still deliver. It reframed my path, which is proof that I can bridge both research and engineering, whether in finance, AI systems, or beyond.
